Property owners sue over Pokemon Go

Detroit-area couple says they don't feel safe as players loiter, trespass, harass home owners near in-game hotspots

The couple lives across the street from Wahby Park, a St. Clair Shores public park that hosts a Pokemon Gym and seven Pokestops. As a result, they say their quiet neighborhood has been overrun with players whose behavior has included peeking in their windows and swearing at them.

"Nobody gets sleep anymore," the lawsuit is quoted as saying. "How is this acceptable? ... They hang out on our lawns, trample landscaping, look in vehicles... We don't feel safe... I don't feel safe sitting on our porch."

Uncharted 4 sells 2.7 million in first week

Uncharted 4 debuted at the top of the charts in Japan and has led the UK charts for two weeks running. It also received plenty of critical acclaim to go with that commercial success, and currently carries a Metacritic score of 93.

Facebook Sued for illegally scanning users private messages

Facebook is in trouble once again regarding its users' privacy.

Facebook is facing a class-action lawsuit in Northern California over allegations that the company systematically scans its users' private messages on the social network without their consent and makes the profit by sharing the data with advertisers and marketers.

According to the lawsuit filing, Facebook might have violated federal privacy laws by scanning users' private messages.

Facebook routinely scans the URLs within users' private messages for several purposes like anti-malware protection and industry-standard searches for child pornography, but it has been claimed that the company is also using this data for advertising and other user-targeting services.

Google Play is adding an Early Access section

Curated storefront will be the most visible part of a push to make open betas more visible to the public.

Google Play is introducing a range of new features for open betas, including a new featured section similar to Steam Early Access.

The unimaginatively titled Google Play Early Access will feature a selection of, "promising open betas that haven't gone to production yet." Google stressed that the games included in the section would be "hand-picked" by the store's team.

Nintendo NX will launch in March 2017

According to the Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki, who was present during Nintendo's investor briefing today, the NX will not make its debut at E3. However, a new Zelda game, in development for both Wii U and NX, will make an appearance. Mochizuki also confirmed that the new Zelda game will be released for both platforms next year.

So long as the game supports it, you can now go online on your Xbox, and play with people on PC. And should Sony be willing, there's even potential for playing with those on PS4.

Sony delays 'Uncharted 4' again, to May 10th

If you're waiting for the next installment of the Uncharted series, get ready to wait just a little bit longer than you might have planned. While its open beta may be just days away, tonight Sony announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will launch on May 10th. That's instead of the plan to launch April 26th, which was a delay from the previously announced release date of March 18th. According to Sony it's still on track to go gold for disc manufacturing later this month, but the delay is to allow for more manufacturing time.

Xbox One update boosts Party Chat and lets you buy Xbox 360 games

One of the most notable additions is improved access to Xbox 360 games. Microsoft has allowed Xbox One gamers to play older titles on their console for a few months now, but finding and launching them can be a pain. With the new update, older-generation games will be listed in a similar way to digital Xbox One titles, making them easier to buy and download to your console.

Party Chat has been given a nice little overhaul too. It can now be used during Twitch broadcasts and there's now the ability to listen to conversations through your headset and speakers at the same time. The Party Chat limit has been expanded from 12 to 16 people, which is either a blessing or a curse depending on what type of games you play.

Microsoft has also listened to gamers who are frustrated with having to jump between apps to check on their achievements. They'll now be loaded into the Xbox One guide and videos will now be playable from your Activity Feed. On top of that, Microsoft is scrapping the hard 30 second limit on Game DVR recording and adding a number of new recording lengths. Footage can now be saved in 15 second, 30 second, 45 second, 1 minute, 3 minute or 5 minute clips.

If you're a member of Microsoft's Xbox One Preview program, you can download the update today. Everyone else will have to wait for it roll out over the next few weeks.

PlayStation VR launching this fall - GameStop CEO

PlayStation VR launching this fall - GameStop CEO

It looks like PlayStation VR will trail the competition to market. In an interview with Fox News this week, GameStop CEO Paul Raines narrowed the release window on the console maker's entry into virtual reality.

"It's a big launch," Raines said. "We're getting ready for it. We will launch the Sony product this fall, and we are in discussions with the other two players."

So far, Sony has only said it will launch PlayStation VR sometime this year. A fall release would have it lagging behind the high-profile launches of two other major VR headsets, Oculus Rift (with a launch scheduled for March 28) and HTC Vive (debuting in April). Regardless of when the headsets launch or which ones prove to be the most successful, Raines said GameStop has plenty of advantages that should help it "dominate" the market.

Google is exploring wireless charging for self-driving cars

IEEE Spectrum found two FCC filings about Google's foray into resonant magnetic induction.

Self-driving cars are poised to be an incredible tool of the future, but they won't be much use if they can't hold a charge. It looks like Google wants to solve this problem via resonant magnetic induction, a form of wireless charging that could use manhole-style transmitters embedded in pavement to juice up driverless vehicles, IEEE Spectrum reports.

The outlet spotted documents that Google filed with the Federal Communications Commission outlining its work with Hevo Power and Momentum Dynamics. These companies were cleared to install experimental chargers at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California, and in its nearby Castle facility used to test self-driving cars.

The idea is that self-driving vehicles would hover over a charging pad for a few minutes to power up, or pass over a series of transmitters as the car is in motion, scoring a nearly constant charge.

Wireless charging solves a few problems for the makers of self-driving people-movers. An efficient system would allow Google and other manufacturers to use smaller, lighter batteries than the ones in current electric vehicles, slashing the cars' overall price. Plus, accessible wireless charging removes a barrier to traveling for children, the elderly and people with certain disabilities, IEEE notes.

Steam hosted $3.5 billion in paid game sales last year

Steam hosted $3.5 billion in paid game sales last year
SteamSpy also noted a declining rate of new releases across 2015

Steam was the venue for more than $3.5 billion in paid game sales, according to an analysis of 2015 from SteamSpy's Sergey Galyonkin.

SteamSpy's methods are based on games activated on Steam, so a portion of that $3.5 billion came from products purchased from other sources. However, while Valve may not earn revenue from every cent, Steam is still the hub for that much business. It is also limited to paid sales, so it excludes money that flows through Steam's growing crop of free-to-play games.

Oculus Rift priced $600, ships in March

The much anticipated VR headset finally has a retail price.

With the pre-order program officially now open, Oculus has revealed its price of $599.99 for the Rift headset. The package, expected to ship in March, includes the VR headset, sensor, Oculus Remote, cables, Xbox One Controller, EVE: Valkyrie, and Lucky's Tale.

Speculation around Rift's price point has circulated for months. A $600 price tag is likely a surprise to many, but Oculus founder Palmer Luckey did state last October that the price would come in higher than $350. "I would say I think people are going to be happy with what they get for the price because I really do think it's going to be that best VR headset you can buy," Luckey said at the time.

While it's true that the package includes two games and a controller, when you factor in the cost of a high-end PC gaming rig, VR becomes a very, very expensive proposition for most people. We'll be keeping an eye on reactions to this news.

Oculus is promising more than 100 titles available by the end of this year. Oculus Studios itself will be releasing over 20 games exclusively for the Rift this year, including Rockband VR by Harmonix, Edge of Nowhere by Insomniac, and The Climb by Crytek.
